Facade Begins to Appear at Waterfront Station

The facade has begun to be attached to the west building at Waterfront Station as the photograph below shows.

Waterfront Station is a 2.5 million square foot mixed-use revitalization in the heart of Southwest Washington, DC. Located at M and 4th Streets SW, the site is right at the Waterfront-Southeastern University Metro Station and near the Southwest waterfront.

Waterfront Station replaces the old Waterside Mall that was demolished in 2008.

Arena Stage Construction Update

Construction at Arena Stage is progressing rapidly and the new Mead Center is taking form.

These photographs were taken February 25, 2009 at the corner of 6th & M Streets SW. The eventual vision of the new Arena Stage can be seen in the architect's rendering.

While construction is taking place, Arena Stage is holding performances in Crystal City and on U Street NW.

Google Maps has updated its satellite photograph of the area which now shows the construction site after the old theatre was leveled and before the construction began. To see the image, visit: Google Maps.

Waterfront Station Construction Progresses

Construction of the new Waterfront Station in Southwest DC is progressing. The first two buildings appear to have topped-off, and the area that will become 4th Street SW between M Street SW and I Street SW is now visually apparent.

Will St. Augustine's Episcopal Church Be Sold?

St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church (600 M Street SW, Washington, DC)

A church representative attended the ANC 6D01 Meeting and discussed the possibility of selling the church site to developers. The representative said no decision has been made at this time.

St. Augustine's Episcopal Church's property abuts the land that is part of the District's redevelopment of the Southwest Waterfront being led by PN Hoffman-Struever Brothers.

DC Signs Land Disposition Agreement for Southwest Waterfront

Washington, D.C., signed a land disposition agreement Tuesday with Hoffman-Struever Waterfront LLC, allowing D.C. to transfer several parcels along the Southwest waterfront to the development team.

D.C.-based PN Hoffman Inc. and Baltimore-based Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse plan to convert the 26-acre waterfront into a $1.5 billion mixed-use mecca, which will include more than 2 million square feet of public parks, plazas and open green space.

Forest City Secures Funding for Waterfront Station Construction

Despite the tough credit market, The Washington Business Journal reports that Forest City has secured $250 million for the first phase of the construction of Waterfront Station.

The View at Waterfront

The renovation of Marina View Towers in Southwest DC is well underway.Originally designed by IM Pei, the apartment building has been undergoing a major renovation.

Now calling itself The View at Waterfront, the apartment building is now leasing again.

The website www.myviewoverdc.com has information about the apartments and their amenities.

The View is conveniently located near the Waterfront Metro and in the midst of Southwest DC's revitalization. It is across the street from Arena Stage and next to the currently-under-construction Waterfront Mall.

Tower Center Apartments Become 1001 Waterfront

The renovation of Town Center Apartments into 1001 Waterfront is well-underway. The windows are being removed in preparation for the installation of new windows.

We can only hope the windows installed look as good at the ones installed over at The View at Waterfront.

Waterfront Station Construction Update

Construction of the new Waterfront Station in Southwest DC is progressing. The pile-driving has stopped, and the new buildings are now beginning to show above grade.

The first photo shows the new building that is being built on the west side of the new 4th Street SW that will run through the middle of the old Waterside Mall location.

The second photo shows the building being built on the east side of the new 4th Street SW. The path of the new 4th Street SW is also apparent in this photo.
